More than 1.1 million -- one in every three --
persons in the Houston/Harris County area lack
health insurance.
The demand for low-cost care in this area is consistently greater than available
community resources. San
José Clinic is the only full-time medical and dental clinic in Harris
County dedicated exclusively to serving uninsured
persons. San José Clinic respects
the input of patients and doctors in a process that
aims to provide the highest quality of
patient care.
Through volunteers,
teaching affiliations and collaborative agreements,
the Clinic is able to offer an array of quality
medical, dental and social services to patients. By the end of 2007, 511 dedicated
professional and community volunteers
contributed 12,931 service hours valued at more than
$335,594.
San José Clinic patients pay a minimum fee, based on
a sliding scale determined according to Federal
Poverty Guidelines, which accounts for family size
and income.
Medical:
Once an individual is determined as eligible for
medical services, he or she can be seen as
appointment availability allows. Medical patient fees
include the doctor visit and examination, any medications prescribed,
and most lab work.
Prescription refills and follow-up lab work are paid
separately.
Dental patient fees are based upon the
service procedure eligibility determination. Dental services include
preventative, restorative, limited prosthodontics
and limited oral surgery procedures.
Appointments are made for eligible persons based on
availability.
